This newsletter was created for the Business Communication track of the Writing Minor at UC Santa Barbara. I completed this assignment with five other classmates in the program. The purpose of this assignment was both educational and practical. It was educational for my group and I because it taught us how to compose a newsletter. It was practical because the director of the Writing Minor now uses our newsletter as a template for future years.
Only one of my group members had prior experience with newsletters. The whole process was fairly new to us. The first decision was finding a unifying software to create the newsletter on. As a group, we decided to use the above template on LucidPress because it has a clean and aesthetic look. For the content, we divided work evenly and allowed each member to choose a topic they felt best displays the value of the writing minor.
The most meaningful experience I've had with the Writing Minor is the required internship involved in completing the program. Therefore, I wrote about the internship from a variety of angles. I cover a large scope of recommendations from networking to professional behavior. I write in a professional manner to prove that I've developed that skill through the minor. Additionally, I use visuals and bullet points to break up text in content-heavy areas.
