The final project for Writing Web Content was to create content for a complete website on a topic of our choice. The only guideline for our topic was that it had to be unbiased and have enough depth to provoke 2,000 words of written content. I chose to center my website around the topic of whaling. My website contains a home page, without written content but with videos embedded, an about page, and four pages of whaling-related written and visual content. In my website I incorporated skills learned from Ms. Mizrahi throughout the course. Web readers are generally in a rush to find specific desired content. To promote “scannability”, as Ms. Mizrahi would say, I used headings and concise paragraphs. I used hierarchical organization to emphasize important information that readers could be trying to find. These strategies made my website successful in informing and engaging readers.
